STEAM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math
Just look around you, ,and you will find a plethora of excellent PBL21 resources and ideas! For example, last June, a road trip from central Texas to northern Arizona included inspirations . . .
. . . . from sprawling cattle ranches to farmland, to driving through miles of the largest wind farms in the world, the desert, the mountains, the Grand Canyon, Meteor Crater, the International UFO Museum and Research Center. . . click the following two links to learn about all the disciplines and activities you can connect!

Robotics and Maker Spaces are an extremely important - and exciting - part of STEAM education. But don't forget these other equally important and exciting possibilities when planning your curriculum and/or your STEAM school. In addition to the resources below be watching for more STEAM themes and resources to be added to this site such as Agricultural Engineering, for example, Vertical Farming; Biomechanical Engineering, for example, Prosthetics or Safety Helmets; Biomedical Engineering, for example, Pandemic Response; Materials Engineering, for example, Bio-inspired Gear; Mechanical Engineering, for example, Timers; Chemical Engineering, for example, Plants to Plastics; Environmental Engineering, for example, Storm Water Runoff; Green Engineering, for example, Alternative Energies, Wind Farms; Process Engineering, for example, Making Ice Cream.
Making STEAM Projects more 21st century - many people equate STEAM and technologies with being "21st century"; however, they can be kicked up a notch or two by planning them in such a way that they are connected to many other disciplines (see the Critical Attributes of 21st Century Education), and by including the development of the 7 Survival Skills for the 21st Century and the development of Multiple Literacies for the 21st Century. We will be adding a template soon to illustrate how this can be done! If you wish to be notified when it's ready, just request it here.

The Science Behind Pixar
You may not be able to travel to the Boston Museum of Science to visit this exhibit, but there are some materials online which you can use to inspire the development of your own unit. Students will love discovering how Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math are applied in the creation of these animated films from Pixar. An overview of the project exhibit is here, The Educator's Guide (and overview) include project ideas which you can adapt if you cannot travel to the museum. Plus all the standards!
